Google Cloud Global, Regional and Zonal resources

Every Cloud platform is divided mainly in three levels by Cloud Provider. Like Globally you have some regions defined in which Cloud Platform will be placed. Each region is divided into multiple zones (Each zone , you can say is equal to a Data Center) . And these zones in a region are connected with High Bandwidth private network.

Resources, you will be creating are visible either globally, regionally or zonally. Lets see some examples below.

Global Resources : Disk Image is a global resource. Hence, once an image created, can be used across any location. There is no constraint for using this.

Regional Resources : Static IP is a regional resource. If you want to assign an IP to a Compute Engine instance than it should be from same region.

Zonal Resources : Compute Instance, Persistent Disks are zonal resources. Hence, if you created a Disk in Zone-A, than you can not attache to the instance in Zone-B. Both the instance and persistent disk should be in same zone. If you want PD should be attached to an Instance.

Above concepts is very important with respect to Google Cloud Certification. Hence understand it well. You will be asked question based on scenario and you need to check this concept with that.

What is Google Cloud Project Container?

Google Cloud Project is a top level container in Google Cloud account. You can have consolidated resources it may or may not be IT resources. Yes, you can have created multiple projects as well. Each project has its own consolidated IT and Non-IT resources. You will be parallel working on various projects with their own resources segregated. Each Project will have below three identifiers

Project ID : It should be globally unique across all the Google cloud products and not only for projects. It is initially auto generated and you can change it, if you want. Once changed can not be altered later on.

Project Number : This is auto generated.

Project Name : This is a user friendly name, which you can change it later on as well.

gcloud (command line utility ) and API will use Project ID to interact with the Google Cloud project.

Billing Account : Project stores Billing account and Authorized User information. One billing account can be linked to more than one project. But a project will always be linked with a single billing account.

Google cloud generates separate bills for the each project, However, you can pay all the projects bill using single Billing Account.

Separate Projects for Each Customer : You can have created a separate projects for each customer and bills are generated separately. Hence, you can have different payment model for each customer.

Difference Between AWS and Google Cloud ?

There are various differences exists between AWS (Amazon Web Service ) and Google Cloud Platform. We have summarized below.

Product Portfolio Size : Amazon Web Service has much bigger portfolio of products that Google Cloud.

Cost : Google Cloud is relatively cheaper than AWS , because of their innovative charging. Google charges per minute basis and AWS charges per-hour basis. It means if you have used Google service for 5 minutes, Google will charge you for 5 minutes but AWS will charge you for 60 Minutes/1 Hour. It really matters when you are using 100's of servers from Cloud. You can calculate, its huge cost difference.

Traffic Spike : Google compute engine is very good , if you see sudden traffic spike. Because Google compute engine load balancers does not require pre-warming in case of AWS it is required and even you have to involve AWS support for the same.

Persistent Disks : Google Compute Engine Supports Larger Disk Size Compare to AWS, even cost for I/O is included in PD costs only , but in case of AWS, it is charged separately.

Mounting PD : You can mount PD as a multiple virtual machine, so that they can be used as read only. If you mount as a single VM than it can be used as read-write mode as well.

VM Live migration : Google compute engine supports Virtual Machine (VM) live migration.

BigQuery auto configuration : If you are using BigQuery for BigData analysis from Google Cloud engine, you do not have to do any configuration and setup explicitly. It can be done by Google App Engine Automatically. And charges will also be applied to only for Storage and Compute you use per minute basis. In case of AWS Redshift , you need to do configuration in advance as well as charges will be applied on per hour basis.

Private Network Between Global Zones : You know that both AWS and Google has their infrastructure setup globally. However, the main difference is that Google Data Centers globally connected with their own private fiber optic networks compare to AWS. All the traffic between AWS regions are done using public internet and in case of Google Cloud this is not the case.

Above is just a comparison between Google Cloud and Amazon Web Service. However, we are not saying one of each is better than other. You jut need to check which one is suitable for your requirement and you can use that one. Apache Hive SerDe : Another Good Video from HadoopExam.com

Here, another good video posted by HadoopExam.com , short and sweet explanation of this SerDe problem. I read many places but got confused with SerDe concepts. After watching this video it clear my concepts in just 5 minutes. That is the good thing about HadoopExam material, they talk about to the point all the places and dont go here and there. I still suggest go for their On-Demand training and Certification material . I am posting the links below. Great work.. in a few hours of watching the videos you become expert.. what else you need it.. certainly its paid material.. but the cost is such a low.. like material content and cost are not comparable.. for the same training many users and companies has to spend 10-20 times more money...
